On Wednesday 29 April 2026, our faculty hosted a panel discussion addressing the importance of sustainability and the One Health approach in veterinary medicine.

The panel was attended by the Deputy Dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murad GÜRSES, faculty members of the Veterinary Faculty, and a large number of students. The panel was moderated by Prof. Dr. Fatma İLHAN.

During the panel, Prof. Dr. Ş. Ege Hışmioğulları spoke on “The Effects of Climate Change on Animal Health, Human Health and the Environment”, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Büşra Yaranoğlu on “The Effects of Climate Change on Productivity in Farm Animals and Stress Management”, and Dr. Ayşegül Karaahmetoğlu Çoban on “One Health: The Effects of Waste on Wildlife”.

The panel scientifically assessed the relationships between climate change, waste management and animal health. Attention was drawn to the effects of climate change on livestock production, animal health, food safety and human health. Furthermore, within the framework of the One Health approach, the importance of proper waste management and sustainable practices, particularly in veterinary clinics, was emphasised.

At the conclusion of the event, it was stated that the widespread adoption of sustainable veterinary practices plays a critical role in reducing environmental and health risks.
