Welcome to the Balıkesir University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine family.
Our faculty began operations in the 2011-2012 academic year with 21 students admitted through the ÖSYM supplementary quota and continues its education and training activities today with approximately 450 students, continuously enhancing its scientific development and institutional capacity. Our primary goal is to train Veterinarians who are committed to professional ethical values, have a high sense of social responsibility, and embrace lifelong learning. Our university receives significant interest from prospective students during the ÖSYM preference periods; since its establishment, our Faculty has consistently ranked among the top veterinary faculties in preference rankings, demonstrating its educational quality, academic strength, and desirability. This interest can be seen as a concrete manifestation of our Faculty's strong academic structure and student-centered approach.
Our education and training activities are conducted with a student-centered approach that takes into account the requirements of the age and professional developments. Our curriculum is reviewed at regular intervals, and course content is continuously updated in line with regional needs, Turkey's animal husbandry policies, and global veterinary medicine standards. This ensures that our students are equipped with the knowledge and skills to compete at both the national and international levels. Active learning methods, field applications, and clinical experiences are prioritized in the educational process, supporting students in gaining professional confidence.
Our faculty's practical infrastructure plays a significant role in helping students gain professional experience. Our Animal Hospital provides diagnostic and treatment services for various animal species while also offering our students hands-on training opportunities. Clinical studies and field applications conducted on cats, dogs, sheep, goats, cattle, horses, camels, and various bird species enable students to acquire comprehensive knowledge and experience about different animal species. In addition, scientific studies conducted through the Animal Husbandry Research and Application Center contribute to the development of animal husbandry in the region while encouraging students to actively participate in the research process.
Balıkesir University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is a strong and dynamic academic unit that carries out its Education, Research, and Application activities with a holistic approach through its Animal Hospital, Central Laboratory infrastructure accredited by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and the Animal Husbandry Research and Application Center. With its academic staff equipped with discipline-specific resources in each Department and its modern scientific infrastructure, it offers its students a qualified, application-oriented, and sustainable learning environment. Our faculty aims to educate its students not only as knowledgeable individuals but also as problem-solving, inquisitive, and productive individuals through an educational model that balances theoretical knowledge with professional practice.
Scientific productivity and research culture are among the primary goals of our Faculty. Our students play an active role in various research projects, particularly TÜBİTAK 2209-A Student Projects, developing their academic perspectives under the guidance of our faculty members. This process not only strengthens students' research skills but also enables them to acquire innovative thinking and scientific production habits. The national and international projects carried out by our faculty members increase the scientific visibility of our Faculty and contribute to its academic development.
Our Faculty stands out not only in the field of education but also through its contributions to regional development and the advancement of the livestock sector. Scientific knowledge is transferred to production through the consultancy services provided by our faculty members to the private sector, supporting sectoral development and indirectly contributing to the national economy. Up-to-date knowledge and experiences gained from the field are reflected in the educational processes, strengthening our students' professional skills and practical abilities. Thanks to these collaborations, our students have the opportunity to get acquainted with the sector at an early stage, develop their professional perspectives, and build a strong professional network.
Graduates of Balıkesir University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine successfully serve in public institutions, private clinics, livestock farms, the food and pharmaceutical industries, and research centers throughout Turkey. The success of our graduates in various fields is an important indicator of our Faculty's strong educational philosophy and application-based approach.
