On-site Assessment Visit to a Cattle Farm by Our Faculty
A visit was paid to a cattle farm operating in Yakupköy, a village within our provincial centre, by Prof. Dr. Uğur Aydoğdu, Prof. Dr. Erdoğan Uzlu and Prof. Dr. Ersoy Baydar, members of the Department of Internal Medicine at our Faculty.
The fact that the farm is run by a young farmer who is also a student at our University added a special significance to the visit.
During the visit, the current state of the farm was examined on-site, and comprehensive assessments were made regarding animal health, farm management and administrative processes. Planned in response to the farm owners’ previous requests to our Faculty’s Animal Hospital due to recurring health issues, this visit served as an important example of integrating academic knowledge with practical field applications.
Our academic staff addressed not only the current health issues but also the factors contributing to rising costs and productivity losses, offering solutions. Furthermore, assessments were made regarding the farm’s sustainability and potential for future development.
During the on-site inspections, information was shared with the farm owners on a voluntary basis; recommendations were provided regarding preventive veterinary practices, proper farm management and ways to improve productivity.
It is our aim that such activities, which reflect our faculty’s community-engaged, solution-oriented and practice-based academic approach, will contribute to the development of regional livestock farming.
