Safe Sacrifice, Informed Society
A panel discussion entitled “Safe Sacrifice, Conscious Society: Best Practices from the Perspectives of Health, Regulation and Faith” was held at the Şehit Ramazan Konuş Conference Hall of the Balıkesir Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry ahead of the upcoming Eid al-Adha.
Organised under the coordination of the Balıkesir Governor’s Office, hosted by the Balıkesir Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, and in collaboration with Balıkesir University and the Provincial Directorate of Religious Affairs, the panel shared important information on the correct implementation of the Eid al-Adha sacrifice in terms of health, hygiene, supervision and religious principles. The programme addressed numerous critical issues, ranging from the selection of sacrificial animals to slaughter hygiene, and from public health to religious sensitivities.
Dr Hüseyin Düzgün, the Provincial Director, who delivered the opening address at the panel, highlighted the importance of inter-institutional coordination during the sacrifice period and stated that fieldwork was ongoing to ensure citizens could perform their religious duties in a healthy, safe and religiously compliant manner.
Prof. Dr. Osman İrfan İlhak, a lecturer in the Department of Food Hygiene and Technology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Balıkesir University, who participated as a speaker, provided comprehensive information on safe sacrificial practices, hygiene rules and matters requiring attention from a public health perspective.
The panel, which was followed with great interest by the participants, concluded after a question-and-answer session.
